A: No, the app will work anywhere that has adequate mobile or WIFI reception.
Q: Do I need to be a Senses Australia client to be able to use the Be My Guide app?
A: No, you don’t have to be a Senses Australia client to be able to use the Be My Guide app. As part of the Terms and Condition, you will need to provide your details, including mobile phone number, email address, postcode/ZIP and country to Senses Australia.
Q: How much does the Be My Guide app cost?
A: The Be My Guide app is a free service that supports people who are blind or have a vision impairment with their orientation and mobility. If in Western Australia, you may also access our Low Vision Service, including orientation and mobility instructors, occupational therapists, orthoptists, technology training, social worker and other support via the NDIS.
Q. Should I use the Be My Guide App to cross roads?
A. Senses Australia strongly advises against this due to significant safety concerns, such as if coverage was to be lost or weak signal strength. Senses Australia strongly advise pedestrians with Blindness or Low vision to use a Pedestrian controlled crossing point. The Be My Guide App might be useful to locate the crossing pole & button function or a visual description of the intersection. Other uses for the Be My Guide App might be helpful in locating another pedestrian who can be approached for assistance.
Q. Can Be My Guide be used at night?
A. Yes but it will be limited to the amount of available artificial light. Using the torch feature on your Mobile device will make some difference but might not be sufficient for effective use of the App.
Q. Will BMG work with my Mobile Phone screen reader?
A. Yes, such as voice over (IOS) talk back (Android)
Q. Can I use Be My Guide instead of my Cane/Guide Dog?
A. No, Be My Guide is there to complement your Orientation skills, should you wish to further your orientation skills contact a provider of Orientation & Mobility services in your local area.
